Saturday, September 22, 2001 : New Teeth, and Crawling

Taylor has another new tooth poking through, to the right of his top middle teeth. This is his fifth in all. I think he is sort of getting used to this feeling of a new tooth, because even though he makes a fuss about it, it is nothing like it was for the first two.

He is also crawling quite well now. When you watch him, he looks very unsteady, and goes just a couple of crawls, and then stops, and sits up, giving you the impression that he isn't very good yet. Then, when your back is turned, he ZOOMS over to somewhere dangerous, and we have to rush after him to stop him breaking peoples vases and things.

He has also found drawers. Now I know that sounds strange, but he likes to open, and then close drawers. Every now and then he gets his fingers caught, but he is learning. He has ignored the contents for quite a while, but is now venturing inside. My bedroom drawer is more stubborn than Clares, so it is Clares that he plays with most, and in turn plays with her clothes. I think Clare should use that drawer for non-essential clothes......

Taylor now claps his hands lots and likes you to do round and round the garden on his hand. He thinks this is very funny. So when I give him my hand for him to do it to me, he picks up my finger as I do it to him!!!

Taylor had his barium x-ray on Wednesday, he was not impressed in the least and screamed the place down as he had to be held down by two of us. The x-ray showed that he hasn't got reflux and his digestive system is ok, which is good news; but back to square one on why he is still being sick. Although he is getting a little bit better and not quite as bad as he used to be.

Thursday, September 20, 2001 : Robyn's 1st Injections

Today Robyn had her 8 week check and injections, everything was fine, and she was a really
good girl, she now wieghs 10lbs 1 oz, she didn't mind being undressed then poked and prodded,
and even managed to catch 10 minutes sleep before having her jabs, where she barely cried at
all. Tonight however her left leg has become quite red and a little swollen, and she has been
a bit distressed, it doesn't help that she has the sniffles at he moment too.
she has had her first taste of calpol today and is now fast asleep, (hopefully for the night!).

Robyn is growing so quickly now, and I've had to buy her quite a few new outfits this week, as
a lot of her things are either too small now, or not warm enough now that the weather has
changed, still shopping for baby clothes is one of my favourite pastimes, so I don't mind!!

Thursday, September 13, 2001 : Twin Towers

A sad day indeed. Today we saw the effects from yesterdays attack on America. The Twin towers of the World Trade Centre were both hit by aeroplanes that were flown straight into the buildings. The Pentagon was also targetted by another plane, and another that went down in Pensilvania. All the planes were hijacked and everyone on the passenger planes were killed. From around 2pm yesterday I watched the images being shown on television, in disbelief. I didn't get any work done, and found myself watching for around 4 hours. What I saw was unbelievable. At the moment there have been estimates of around 800 killed at the Pentagon, and an unknown number in Manhatton, although the media are suggesting that there may be as many as 20,000 people. I can't even comprehend that number of people dying from one event. It is a very tragic day.

I think what gets me most is the fact that there are going to be many thousands of people in America, and around the world, who will have lost family members, close friends, or someone they knew or worked with. As far as I know, no-one that I knew was involved, however a couple of magicians were close to being at the scene. I am thankful that they weren't killed or injured.

I have been a father for just over 9 months now, and an uncle for around 6 weeks, and I have no idea what it would be like to lose a member of my family. I would be devastated. It is something that I am finding very hard to imagine. On behalf of the Drayson and Anderton family, I would like to tell all those involved with this tragedy, that our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families, at this, their time of need, and with the rescuers who are working to alleviate the suffering. I have no idea what they must be going through.

Sunday, September 9, 2001 : Robyn's latest adventures

Last night Clare and I went out for Barbara's Birthday, and dressed up as st Trinian's, we went over
to Chicago's in Epsom, as so not to be recognised by anyone we know! So Robyn was looked after by Grannie and Gramps, (who had had Taylor that afternoon, and were getting tired) unfortunately, Robyn
had decided that se wasn't particually tired, and so decided that she wasn't going to go to sleep,
instead, she gave them lovely big smiles at 10pm, with very wide eyes, not quite what they had in mind<
although very nice. She finally gave in at 10.45pm. I returned about 2am and managed to get nearly
4 hours sleep ( it took me a while to wind down from a great evening) before Robyn decided it was time for the next day to start! Robyn is very smiley now, and you can't help but smile back, even if you are trying to convince her it's time for sleep, (either at 8.30pm or 5.30am)
Robyn's head control is really coming on now, and she's always trying to stand!! I keep telling her that she is too little and 6 week old babies shouldn't be doing this, But she just gives me funny looks, and looks the other way!! ( girls seem to master this "I'm not listening" look at a very early age!!)
I had Robyn weighed on Thursday and she is now 9lb 4oz, it's amazing how fast she's growing,
I am going to put her bottles up another ounce tomorrow.

Sunday, September 2, 2001 : This afternoon at the craft fair.

This afternoon Taylor, Robyn, Auntie Lyn and Mummy went to a craft fair at Bromley. Taylor had his first ride on a merry-go-round, he sat on the car next to Mummy and looked very proud of himself!! until it started to move - once he got used to it he seemed to love it. He also played on a bouncy castle, bouncy slide and a hot air space where balloons floated around. Taylor was very impressed with it. Taylor also did a spiral painting all by himself which looks very good and will go on his bedroom wall. Robyn was very good and slept the whole way round, I'm sure next year when she's bigger she can go on the rides too!!!

Taylor can now clap his hands, whenever he hears the words "good boy"" or "well done" he gives himself a clap. He even claps his hands when he is being naughty and doing something he shouldn't. We can all tell what he is gong to be like when he is older!!!

Sunday, September 2, 2001 : Sarah and Trevors Wedding

Clare was invited to Sarah Quigley's Wedding to Trevor yesterday. We spent an age finding something for Clare to wear. We went shopping to Blue Water a few weeks back and spent the day searching. I just looked in my wardrobe just before it was time to go, and put something smart on.

I was working during the day, and Grandma and Gramps looked after Taylor and Robyn for the day. They looked shattered when I came to take over, and drive them over to the reception. They volunteered to look after Taylor again next Saturday, although that was before yesterday. They might change their minds now they know what's involved.....

Taylor, Robyn, Clare, Lyn and I had a great time at the reception. Taylors second wedding in as many months. They were both very good, got lots of attention from the bride, and guests. Most of the Nannies were there, and I heard all sorts of stories about the hen weekend !!! I sure Clare didn't really do the things they said ;-) Taylor went to sleep around 10pm, (and Clare stayed awake which is unusual) and woke this morning at about 9:45am. I guess he must have tired himself out by dancing with all the girls. He is getting used to going to all these parties, I wonder what the next one will be?
